Chapter 9:

"... And the award for Best New Artist goes to..."

Andy smiled at Emily who was holding her hand in a fierce grip her leg bouncing anxiously as the pause in the announcement went on,

"Calm down Em, you're making me jittery." she told her with a soft laugh. Serena giggled and ran her hand over Emily's leg nodding in agreement with Andy.

"Nykhol!" the young actor on stage shouted.

Andy froze, time seemed to stop at that second, her mouth fell open, her heart was pounding in her chest at an alarming rate, the sounds around her faded out as she stared at her picture on the jumbotron. Angelina pulled her out of her seat hugging her tightly and everything swiftly moved back into real time as she smiled at her sister tears filling her eyes.

"OH MY GOD NYKKI YOU WON!!! You won! Go!" Angelina said excitedly wiping her eyes. Andy smiled and pulled her sister with her towards the stage to accept the award.

She smiled at the young actor and returned the hug he gave her before accepting the little moon man he handed to her. Looking over the crowd assembled Andy smiled and then stepped up to the microphone, "Thank you." she said and laughed softly as applauds erupted in the venue, "Thanks. Wow... I... really didn't expect this... I want to thank everyone who made this possible: Niko, Chris, Rachel, Stacey, Phil... um... Danielle, Jimmy, and Leslie. Also... I just want to say that without the fans this would never have been possible. I have amazing fans and I love each of you. Thank you. To my girls Caroline, Cassidy, Emily, Serena, and last but never least my sister and manager Angelina, I want to say thanks for everything and always believing in me. You girls are my world. Thank you MTV and thank you America. I love you." she smiled and hugged her sister to her side as more applauds erupted from the audience of fans and other artists.

They exited the stage to the left and Andy found herself engulfed in hugs from Jen, Angelina, and Niko. She smiled and returned each hug before kissing Niko's cheek, "If it were not for you Niko... I definitely would not be here. Thanks buddy... truly."

He smiled and shook his head, "You've already thanked me enough. You took me out of that flea trap I lived in, you gave me a job working with you, I have the opportunity of a lifetime all because of you.. so no more of that... I should be thanking you. So... thank you."

"We need to get ready for the performance... Lina, I need you changed and ready immediately, use my dressing room, Niko get Michael and Chris and please help them with the smoke machine. I don't need them screwing it up again. Jen get off that leg before I send you back to Lille for recoup time. 5 minutes people. Let's move!" Andy said moving towards her dressing room.




Andrea smiled at Emily and Serena shaking her head laughing softly, "You two are crazy, you know that?"

Emily smiled brightly, "Well it was! Nykhol you were absolutely mesmerizing. Even if I didn't understand the words to a few of the songs. And that one song you did, the softer one that picked up just a little... baby you know the one I mean, what is the bloody name of it?" she stated.

Serena and Andy both laughed earning a eye roll from the vibrant Brit, "I told you, you should have listened when I was translating. It's called I Will Always Love You. It's the same one I used to listen to a few years back when the first of her albums was released. The only difference is it's in English this time around." Serena stated wrapping her arm around Emily's waist.

Andy smiled and glanced behind her as her sister emerged from the back dressing rooms, "There is Angelina, let's get out of here before the wolves descend." she said tilting her head towards the exit. She smiled at her bodyguard and led the way out of the building and back onto the red carpet. With a heavy sigh she returned her sunglasses to her eyes, even though it was night out, and smiled as she moved through the small crowd of paparazzi and journalists to the waiting limo at the corner.

"I still can't believe we were at the VMAs and you won! Twice! Ok well I can believe you won, you are amazing. I just can't get past the fact that we were there with you and you mentioned us both times!" Serena said once the car pulled out into traffic.

Andy chuckled and press the send button on her phone.

"THANK YOU!!! THANK YOU!!! THANK YOU ANDY!!! We watched the whole thing just to see you. Carrie cried when you called us your girls, she is so excited and all her friends are jealous. She's already gotten 8 phone calls." Cassidy's excited voice came through the phone.

Andy smiled, "You are both very welcome. Is your mother around Casper? I need to stop by tonight if it's not to late, I have an early flight tomorrow morning."

"She should be at home, that's where she was when we left. We're heading back from dinner at Dad's. Mom's been in a peculiar mood since dinner at your place... so we've been away from the house as much as possible. Come on by we'll be there in about 10 minutes."

Andy sighed and laid her head back on the seat, "Alright kiddo. I'll see you soon alright?"

Cassidy said her goodbyes and Andy ended the call with a sigh, "They should be there in a few minutes so we'll go there so I can see the twins before we fly out." she told the three women in the car with her.

"You actually look forward to seeing those little minions?" Emily asked her eyes wide and doubtful. Andy laughed and nodded but it was Angelina who spoke.

"My sister is a masochist!" Angelina said laughing. Andrea chuckled and shook her head giving her driver the address to Miranda's townhouse before leaning back against the leather and closing her eyes.

The car pulled up in front of the townhouse and came to a stop approximately eight minutes later. Andy looked up at the house and couldn't help but remember the last time she was here. Taking a deep breath she smiled at Emily and Serena, "Thank you for coming out tonight, if you ladies would like to return home now Carl will take you. I'm going to walk the city tonight I think. Last night here for a month... maybe longer depending on how things work out." she said softly.

Emily smiled and nodded before hugging her tightly, "Thank you for such a lovely evening and allowing us to attend the awards with you. It was a night I doubt I'll ever forget. You are amazingly talented." she whispered.

Andy smiled and returned the hug nodding slightly, "Thanks Em. I'm glad you two had fun. Take care of each other and I'll see you soon. You have my number meaning I expect at least one call while I'm off running across America." she told her loud enough for Serena to hear.
Angelina laughed and pulled Andy from the limo, "Have a good night girlies. We'll call you when we land tomorrow."

Taking a deep calming breath Andrea made her way to the townhouse door and knocked lightly. Caroline opened the door shortly after she knocked and greeted them with a bright smile and youthful excitement. Smiling back at the young girl Andy entered the townhouse and followed her down to a different room in the house where she found Cassidy, Miranda, and Jeremy sitting and laughing with one another.

Momentarily stunned Andy stood in the doorway with Angelina at her back staring at the scene in front of her. Miranda and Jeremy were laughing at something Cassidy must have said before they entered the room. The warmth love radiating from both adult eyes for their daughter was something beautiful to watch and made Andy feel as if she were an interloper. She let out a barely audible sigh and squared her shoulders before clearing her throat and bringing the attention of the rooms occupents to her. With a warm smile she waved and stepped into the room keeping herself at a distance from the family sitting on the sofa near the fireplace.

"Hi, uh Miranda, Mr. Priestly, Cassidy. I uh... just wanted to see the girl's before I left tomorrow. Also I have something for them, that is, if it's alright with you that I give it to them." she said looking at Miranda.

The older woman ran her eyes over her and Andy was taken back to years ago when she would undergo the same perusal on a daily basis.

She smiled at the thought and shook herself from the memories of a time in her life that she would rather just forget. She held Miranda's gaze when the woman's cool blue eyes met her own and gave a slight smile before looking to the twins, "Casper, CareBear... get over here and give me a hug! I'm going to miss you two." she said softly her eyes dancing with laughter.

Laughing she watched as the twins raced to her both wrapping their arms about her waist hugging her tight enough to steal her breath. She smiled down at them and kissed both girls' heads. Looking up at Miranda again she saw the small smile on the woman's lips and felt her heart flutter. Turning away she untangled the girls from around her and reached for the bag Angelina had sitting by her feet.

"I have something in this bag for you but only if your mother says it's ok for you to have them." Andy said pulling a smaller cloth bag out and turning to Miranda, "You are free to look at them before I show the girls if you'd like." she said softly moving over to hand Miranda the bag.

Moving back she watched as Miranda pulled the first of the two moon men from the bag and stared at it as if trying to recall where she'd seen it before. A gasp from behind her made her turn to look at her sister and the two young red heads that had once again made their way into her heart. She chuckled at the completly bewildered expressions all three of them were wearing.

"Nykki... those... you... Wow." Angelina managed to get out gaining a laugh out of Andrea.

"Break Through Video?" Jeremy's voice pulled Andy's attention back around to where he was sitting next to Miranda with the second moon man in his hands. Andy nodded and bit her bottom lip.

"And- Nykhol... are you sure you want us to have those... I mean you just won them.. TONIGHT!" Cassidy said her voice soft and breathy. Andy turned and looked at her and then Caroline before she nodded.

"Over the last few years I've won more awards than I can count on my hands... when I won the first one I was so excited. Angelina couldn't get me to shut up about it. When I won the second one I gave it to my sister, it was because of her that I actually even did the movie at all. After that... they were just awards... until these two." she said smiling slightly. She walked over to Miranda and held out her hand, "May I?" she asked.

Miranda watched her for a moment before she handed her the award back. With a slight nod Andy turned back to the twins, "C'mere Casper."

Cassidy smiled and bounced over to where she was standing wrapping an arm around her. Andy smiled and pulled her closer, "These two awards are very special to me and I want you two to keep them. You girls are very important to me for reason even I cannot explain." She looked down at Cassidy and winked, "When I first decided to become an international singer/actress it was just business, and then I ran right into my past thanks to an ignorant driver in a little red car a week ago. Nothing that happened before that moment can compare to the week that followed. You two girls helped me far more than you will ever know, you are both engrained in my heart and soul so I want to leave this little piece of me with you. Something to help you remember this week we spent getting to know one another better." She kissed Cassidy's head and handed her the award she had in her hands before moving over to Jeremy.

"May I, sir?" she said softly looking at the award in his hands. He held it out and Andy took it with a smile and made her way over to Caroline.

She watched the tears move silently down the young girls soft pale cheeks and hugged her tight.

"A... ar...are you coming back?" Caroline asked softly into her chest.

Moving back from the young girl Andy wiped the tears from her face and kissed both her eyes and forehead, "There is not a force on this earth strong enough to keep me away CareBear. I love you and your sister dearly and don't think for once second that I am missing your birthday bash! It's already worked into my tour schedule. Private concert for you and your friends... I promise you sweetie, I will be back. This is home." she hugged Caroline again and with one arm still around her turned to Cassidy, "That goes for you too Kiddo. I love you and I will not miss your birthday. After your concert I have a few days off if it's alright with your mother we'll go do something around the city. I may even take you to the place I used to go to think while hiding from my dictator boss while I was working here at that magazine."

Miranda's soft chuckle brought Andy's eyes back to the sofa where the older woman was sitting. She smiled and winked at Miranda, "I must get going now. We have an early flight. You girls take care of your mom and dad. Tell Rosa I said au revoir, et a la prochaine fois and..." Andy started

"We loved the eclairs she sent. Liz as well and stop..." Angelina said.

"Giving her such a hard time. She can barely tell you apart as is so" Andy said.

"No more confusing the poor girl." Angelina said with a smile.

Andy nodded and laughed at the look on Miranda and Jeremy's faces, "Kind of a hard habit to break after all these years." she said with a shrug holding her hand out to Jeremy, "Nice meeting you sir. You have amazing children, be proud of them... no matter what."

"Thank you...  I will. Nykhol, wasn't it?" he said

Andy nodded and took her hand back from his with a slight smile, "That would be me." she said turning and placing a light kiss on Miranda's cheek, "Thank you for letting me do this. It means a lot to me." she whispered so only Miranda would hear. When she detected the stiffness of the older woman's body and the slight nod she righted herself and walked out of the room with a rushed goodbye called over her shoulder.



Once she was outside of the townhouse and the door was firmly closed behind her she took a deep breath and let it out slowly before looking at Angelina with a light sheen of tears in her eyes, "That was the hardest thing I think I've ever done." she whispered blinking rapidly.

"Why do you continuously torture yourself this way Nykki? You don't have to be around the woman." Angelina said softly wrapping her arm around Andy and leading her down the street.

Andy sighed heavily, "Yeah... I do.
